Belvedere Artists-in-Residence Program for 2022

Chenglong Wetlands, Yunlin, Taiwan
Chenglong Community Development Association

I. Introduction

The Chenglong Art Project was part of the education program of the Kuan Shu Foundation which worked in the local elementary school and community from 2010 to 2019. In 2021, the Chenglong Community Development Association resumed the project to further the collaboration between artists and the local community. In 2022, the art project has shifted towards the format of an art-residency in order to seek a more diverse way of creating in relation to the Chenglong Wetlands. The residency seeks to encourage cultural producers working in various media to understand the local environment by living in it, in order to engage with it through site specific production.

II. Residence Location

Belvedere (Chenglong village, Kouhu Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan)

III. Time Schedule

First period: from July to December in 2022: minimum stay one week, maximum one month.

Applicants can apply for any period of time, so long as it’s coordinated with the association. The next period in 2023 will be announced at the end of the 2022.

IV. Eligibility

All forms of art are welcome, but the concept of the work must be site-specific to the local environment, ecology, culture, history or life in the Chenglong Wetlands.

V. How to Apply

Please submit CV, motivation, concept and sketch of work, list of tools, materials and budget and email to: chenglong.village@gmail.com

Applications will be examined by the association at the end of every month, and the results will be emailed to the applicants by the middle of the following month.

VI. Provisions and Requirements

Applicants should agree with the following requirements before submission:

A. Provisions

  1. Accommodation and studio space in Belvedere. The accommodation is not available for non-artists to stay overnight.
